SpecsCore AI is a free Windows desktop evaluator for hardware engineers: compare manufacturer datasheet PDFs to your board design limits, on your own PC.
The pain points
If you design boards or select components, this workflow is familiar – and painful:
- Ctrl+F theater on 50-400 page PDFs. Searching for “VCC” or “Iq” still misses footnotes, test conditions, and the gap between recommended operating range and absolute maximum ratings.
- Spreadsheet ping-pong. Your real constraints live in Excel (rail budget, enclosure temperature, drive current, radio limits). Datasheet numbers live in a PDF. Copy/paste mistakes and stale rows happen constantly.
- Weak audit trail in reviews. Someone asks “where did that number come from?” and the answer is a vague memory of a page you saw yesterday.
- Cross-compare fatigue. Down-selecting 2-6 parts against the same design budget burns hours and still risks missing a hard fail.
- Cloud anxiety. Uploading unreleased or NDA datasheets to a random AI website is often a non-starter for hardware and aerospace teams.
How SpecsCore solves it
- Your design limits are the source of truth – paste or upload board targets; SpecsCore does not invent industry defaults.
- A compliance matrix with citations – row-by-row comparison, plus Page / Section links that jump in a local PDF preview so you can verify every claim.
- Local-first privacy – PDFs stay on your computer. Bring your own Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic API key. SpecsCore does not run a datasheet middleman cloud.
- Cross-compare mode – load several candidate datasheets against the same limits when you are choosing a winner.
- Scoped audits for large manuals – pick Electrical / Absolute Max / radio sections so you only send what matters.
How a run works
- Slot 1: load a manufacturer PDF (or the built-in NE555 sample).
- Slot 2: paste or upload your design limits.
- Run: read the matrix, click citations, confirm in the PDF preview.
This first release is a free evaluation so I can collect feedback from practicing engineers (the same audience that reads GaussianWaves).
Try it
Open the SpecsCore AI product page for the free Windows download, user guide, and how to send feedback.
- Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
- About 15-20 minutes with the NE555 sample
- Please use public datasheets only
Feedback I am looking for
- Did install + first Run make sense?
- Would this help vs Excel + Ctrl+F on datasheets – yes / no / maybe, and why?
- Anything broken or missing?
